"You will never understand something until you experience it." - Unknown

This is the same situation that happened to me when I was not aware of the power of social media.

At first, I had only a Facebook account to which my local friends were connected to it. I am the only person in my family who chose the Computer Science field. That's why my Facebook friends were not able to help me. Similarly, there is a lot of politics going on on Facebook which I don't like.

YouTube Journey ๐Ÿ’ป

The first useful social media platform I found was YouTube. It is still my best social media platform. There are many beginner-level things present on YouTube that I was not aware of. I watched a ton of videos on it including programming, business, TED Talks, self-help videos, etc.

I first discovered it in 2017 and loved its content. There are many advantages of YouTube and other social media platforms but the three advantages that I like the most are:

  1. People with much influence have a YouTube channel. Even if they don't, you can still find them on the internet from other YouTubers.

  2. If you're a slow learner like me and you want something to be repeated multiple times to make you understand then YouTube videos are the best resources. You can watch the same videos multiple times.

  3. The YouTube videos are not set to a specific time like the News. You can watch them according to your own schedule.

Social media will give you the link to other resources and these resources will lead you to other resources and the process will go on. So it is a chain of multiple resources.

This is the same thing that happened to me after watching a ton of videos on YouTube. I found many useful resources and made many friends through it.

Result

After years of consuming content, I decided to create my own YouTube channel to add value. But this decision was not simple for me. I heard before that if you want to learn, it is better to teach. I didn't have someone in my town to teach and as a beginner, I was also afraid to be judged in front of others.

This led me to the decision to teach myself how to program on YouTube because there is no fear of judgment there.

LinkedIn Journey ๐Ÿข

After creating my YouTube channel, I came to know about LinkedIn as an online resume. It was a new thing to me. Now I can post my progress and put my YouTube videos there to help other people and increase my viewership also.

LinkedIn is a good platform to search for jobs and filter them according to your need. In this way, it is very easy for someone to find a job that they want.

I put so much content on Linkedin and found amazing people that were open to help. They were regularly posting their content and adding value.

Result

After about a year of using LinkedIn, I realized that the content people are posting is the repetition of one thing many times and they are promoting themselves. They were using LinkedIn for promoting their businesses.

It is still one of the best choices to search for companies and filter them. Although I still have a LinkedIn account, I didn't post that much as compared to the previous time.

Twitter Journey ๐Ÿš€

Twitter is an amazing platform if you want to be real and stay away from clickbait. The community here is genuine and you will find many big names on Twitter.

Twitter is a platform that allows you to connect with your audience on a personal level. Interactions are generally casual. You can simply judge Twitter by attending the tech conferences and most people will say "Follow me on Twitter". People don't commonly say "Connect with me on LinkedIn".

After realizing that LinkedIn is not a good fit for me, I had doubts about whether to use Twitter or not but after started using it, I become assured that the number of users does not mean that the platform is good or bad. After looking at the data, you will definitely that it is true.

You can join the communities there and they will genuinely help you and provide you with FREE resources. I was introduced to DevOps in a real way after using Twitter. Although I was using LinkedIn for one year but there was much promotional content instead of educational content.

If you also want what is DevOps and whether it is a good career for you or not then you read this amazing blog from Spacelift here.

Twitter is my second best platform of choice after YouTube.

Result

After half a year of using it, I gained over 300 followers and they all are real. People DM me every day for help.

I like its simplicity. There are no groups and pages available. It means the app has no complexity. The speed of opening the account and loading the pages is amazing. In business, speed is not an option anymore.

Hashnode Journey โœ๏ธ

I tried Quora and medium before but they were not user-friendly and were not created for a specific set of people. Everyone was writing there.

I wanted something for a specific set of people and I discovered Hashnode on Twitter. Although it is a blogging platform but it really feels like a social media platform and more inclusive where you can interact with other people also.

There is also a challenge section where different challenges are announced and people happily apply to win the prizes.

I was not passionate about blogging but after using hashnode, I became interested in it. Hashnode provides you with the right environment and the right environment helps you to be more productive.

After writing 7 articles, I will definitely say that I enjoyed blogging. It is good for beginners to start because it provides a step-by-step process to learn something. Writing is the best way from providing beginner to advanced level content.

If you're an introvert and want to find a community of like-minded people then social media is the best choice. I hope you like this article.

This article is published for the Hashnode #blogswithcc challenge.
